Ashley George5:45 a.m. My alarm’s radio blasts on. I wake up, but lay in bed for a while, too tired to rise.
5:58 a.m. I decide I had better get in the shower if I want to make it to school on time.
6:38 a.m. My cat comes into my room while I’m doing my makeup, jumps up onto my desk and knocks everything onto the floor.
8:26 a.m. In biology, the kids in my group and I discover my pencil is heat sensitive and changes color. We are amazed.
9:32 a.m. My next class is moved into the choir room, and I have a conversation in the back row with friends about how the ceiling of our school looks like mold. I think we need a new school before I graduate, not after.
10:25 a.m. Jared and I argue over how to pronounce “telepathy.” I know I am right.
10:40 a.m. Silence in Spanish class is interrupted by knuckles cracking. This gives me the urge to pop my neck.
11:20 a.m. Kira throws her crumpled up lunch bag at the trash can, as she does every day. She misses, as she does every day.
11:30 a.m. In English, we learn from Paul the difference between hanged and hung.
12:30 to 12:45 p.m. Kristi and I wait in the lunch line, wasting exactly half of our lunch period. I get the last turkey/gravy/mashed potatoes, but I am still upset I only have 15 minutes to eat it.
2:10 p.m. In math: Ross asks “Who’s the sub tomorrow?”
Mr. Eldridge responds, “Your mom.
“And that’s not a ‘your mom’ joke.”
2:32 p.m. I call Courtney to see if she can go to the mall with me. She has to call me back.
3:24 p.m. I look up the band “Born Ruffians,” which I read about in Teen Vogue. I listen to their most popular song listed on iTunes, “Hummingbird.”
3:26 p.m. I decide it’s worth downloading.
3:30 p.m. I head to Apple Valley Elementary School to pick up my brother.
3:54 p.m. At home, my brother and I argue over whether to leave the blinds downstairs open or closed. He shuts them all, making our house miserably dark.
4:10 p.m. I leave to go to the mall with Courtney.
4:21 p.m. I drive along Nob Hill Boulevard and the mountains straight ahead look amazing.
4:37 p.m. After I pick Courtney up, we sing along to Justin Timberlake.
4:52 p.m. I pick up a free T-shirt at PacSun, thanks to the March issue of Seventeen magazine, which had an offer on page 22.
5:07 p.m. We go to Hot Topic to find a black pair of pants. Instead, we find a purple pair, like the pair someone we know owns. We debate whether we should purchase them so we can match this person.
5:26 p.m. After visiting a few more stores, and finding some purple accessories, such a belt, we decide to head home.
6:45 p.m. I arrive at Starbucks on South 72nd Avenue to meet my Spanish partner. I run into a tennis friend and chat with her until my partner arrives. I order a tall vanilla soy latté and talk with the barista about Spanish class. My partner arrives and we finish writing our dialogue. It’s due the next day. Procrastination at its best.
7:30 p.m. I type up our speech, color code it with highlighters according to the two speaking parts and attempt to memorize my part.
8:26 p.m. I put on some sweat pants and my new T-shirt from PacSun and watch TV with my parents.
