Calling all young choral composers

Seattle’s Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble wants to hear from young choral composers throughout the Northwest.
That includes high school and college students in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming and Washington.
Young composers from these states are invited to apply for the group’s 2008-2009 Student Choral Composition Awards. Three winners will be selected: one high school student, one undergraduate student, and one graduate student.
Winners will receive a cash award and hear their composition performed in the Opus 7 concert on May 9 at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle. High school winners receive $300, undergraduates $500, and graduates $700.
Entries — three to five minutes long — must be received by March 7.
The submitted a cappella or piano accompanied choral work should be in the “classical” tradition, although some jazz elements may be incorporated. No pop or show-choir styles will be accepted. A CD is preferred, but cassette tapes are acceptable.
