There are a couple more reporting positions available for the 2009 Valley Workshop. And the deadline to apply for them has been extended until Friday, Feb. 27.
The intensive, day-and-a-half-long workshop will be held March 20-21, 2009, in Yakima. Its mission is to increase teens’ interest in journalism and help them realize its power and necessity.
There’s room for 10 high school students who will have the chance to cover a story with a professional journalist. Students’ stories will then be published in the Yakima Herald-Republic.
At this time, photojournalism slots are full.
The workshop — sponsored by the Herald-Republic, Tri-City Herald, Society of Professional Journalists and Associated Press — is free. It includes a Friday night pizza dinner at the Herald-Republic. Saturday, students will work on their stories in the newsroom.
To apply, students must fill out an application form and provide one letter of recommendation. Applications are due Feb. 27, 2009.
