Honoring outstanding senior musicians

Outstanding high school musicians — all seniors — will perform at The Seasons Performance Hall on Thursday, Feb. 4.
Nominated by a variety of private music teachers and school music groups, these seniors have shown an exceptional dedication to music. They come from a variety of schools and play an assortment of instruments.
But they all have something in common: a love of music and the desire to share it.
Here’s a little bit more about each student performer.
• Alexandra Cottle attends Davis High School and is the daughter of Alan and Monica Cottle. She starred as Alice in Davis’ recent production of “Alice in Wonderland” and has been playing piano for 10 years. She will perform a duet with Colleen Fontana.
• Colleen Fontana is the daughter of Lori and Robert Fontana. She has been playing piano for seven years. She attends Davis and writes for the Yakima Herald-Republic’s Unleashed youth section.
• Parker Fannin has played piano for 10 years and is the son of Jim and Capri Fannin. He has been West Valley High School’s Associated Student Body treasurer for two years.
• Darin Greif attends West Valley and has been playing trumpet for six years. He has won numerous music awards and is the son of John and Lisa Greif.
• Megan Guchee has studied piano for 11 years. She is the daughter of Kelle and Bob Guchee and attends Riverside Christian School.
• Katheryn Kibbe attends Yakima Online! and has been playing the viola for 10
years. She is the daughter of Glenn and Pamela Kibbe. She was the principal violinist of the 2009 All-State Symphony.
• Dessie Larson is the daughter of Dave and DeEtta Larson. She has been playing trombone for eight years.
• Riley Luvaas has been playing the flute for seven years. He is the son of Janis and Randy Luvaas and attends Davis. He has won numerous music awards.
• Kevin Madson attends West Valley and is the son of Kelly and Sharon Madson. He has been playing the flute for seven years.
• Katie Penhallegon has been playing violin for 14 years. She attends Eisenhower High School and is the daughter of Dan and Libby Penhallegon.
• Benjamin Schilperoort is the son of Anne and Monte Schilperoort. He attends Davis and participates in the Running Start program at Yakima Valley Community
College. He has been playing the clarinet for seven years.
• Joey Wenda has been playing the oboe for more than six years. He goes to West Valley and is the son of Walt and Barbara Wenda. He has won numerous music awards.
Their performance, sponsored by the Yakima Music Club, begins at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission costs $5 for nonmembers.
