SELAH — Jeff Cochran started playing lacrosse in college.
These days, when he talks about his beloved sport, his eyes still light up. But he doesn’t just talk about lacrosse with enthusiasm.
He’s sharing it with students at Selah High School.
Cochran says he wanted to start a lacrosse team to involve more students in the school and its extracurricular activities. Now, about 30 students are involved.
At Selah High School, lacrosse is considered an athletic club sport, not a varsity sport. The club started in 2008. And last year, Cochran says, the team won more games than expected
Lacrosse, the official sport of Canada, is a combination of hockey, soccer and basketball — except there’s more scoring and more hitting.
And it’s perhaps the original American sport, played as early as more than 800 years ago by Native Americans.
