The deadline for the Letters about Literature contest is just around the corner.
Students in grades four to 12 are invited to enter by writing a letter to one of their favorite authors about how his or her work of fiction, nonfiction or poetry shaped their perspective on the world or themselves.
The top two state winners will advance to the national competition. National winners will be announced in the spring.
Prizes at the state level include a $50 Target gift card among other items. The winners will also appear on a poster. A $500 Target gift card will be awarded to the individual national winners, as well as a $10,000 Letters About Literature Reading Promotion Grant for their community or school library.
The deadline is Dec. 6. Contestants must include their name and return address on the envelope. They also must include the entry coupon that can be found at http://lettersaboutliterature.org. Contestants are asked to staple it to the last page of the letter.
Entries should be mailed to: Letters About Literature, Competition Level (Indicate Level 1, 2, or 3), P.O. Box 609, Dallas, Pa. 18612.
