Washington Apple Education Foundation names scholarship winners

The Washington Apple Education Foundation recently awarded local students with college scholarships, funded by Washington’s tree fruit industry.
In all, 120 scholarships — the highest number in the foundation’s history — were awarded to this year’s group of 105 students. The scholarships are worth a total of $350,000. Amounts vary from $500 and full-rides to multi-year awards.
Recipients from the Yakima area are: Abril Lopez, Adriana Olivera, Alejandra Borunda, Amy Wickenhagen, Andrew Delgado, Armani Emmal, Ashley Koempel, Blanca Parra, Brandon Gillespie, Celina Venegas, Claudia Figueroa, Danielle De La Rosa, Denise Castro, Diana Sanchez, Diego Guel, Eduardo Mejia, Ernestino Garcia, Eric Perez, Faith Cowin, Gregory Hoptowit, Guillermo Cabrera, Hector Reyes, Heriberto Tereza, Jennifer DeWeese, Jessica Yates, Jesus Silva, Jillian Garrigues, Joel Weise, Jose Garcia, Karina Jimenez, Kevin Elkins, Lauren Zeutenhorst, Leah Bosma, Lerina Garza, Lillian Bravo, Lindsey Adams, Maria Castaneda, Matt Klaus, Matthew Paul, Megan Jones, Noemi Barbosa, Pedro Garcia, Rachel Argo, Rodrigo Romero, Sandra Ramos, Scott Meek, Scott Zediker, Trent Fuller, Vanessa Reyes Romero, Victoria Lopez, William Hansen and Wouter Daemen.
Students interested in applying for the 2010 scholarships can obtain an application at www.waef.org after Sept. 15. The deadline to apply is March 1.
Washington Apple Education Foundation announces new scholarships

The Washington Apple Education Foundation is offering some new scholarships this year.
The new scholarships were started by Tieton’s CPC Apple Company and Olson’s Honey of Yakima. Stemlit Growers, Inc. also added another scholarship to those it already gives through the WAEF.
In all, the foundation will provide about $225,000 in student aid this year.
The WAEF Universal Scholarship application deadline is March 1. The application — complete with descriptions of all available awards — is available at www.waef.org.
